Contests for Artists
Topic: Feedback

Hello fellow artists,

Entering contests is another way to gain feedback about your artwork. Having your work judged by other people, with the possibility of winning an award, adds an extra edge of excitement to one's work. It also adds that challenge of creating something that might win while still remaining true to yourself. It's not for everyone. I know many wonderful artists who only give their art away to family and friends, leaving fame and fortune to others. I enjoy sticking my neck out and getting feedback, and you might also.

The Art Deadlines List has descriptions of contests for all of the arts through the year. It's free, but there is a paid premium edition for $20.

A search on Google for "contests" or, more specifically, "watercolor contests", (for example) works also.

Photo Feedback
Topic: Feedback

Hello fellow artists,

Getting feedback from friends is wonderful, but getting feedback from people all over the world can be a real eye-opener.

You may have tried this already -- but if not, and if you are a photographer, I recommend flickr. You can post your photos for free and then send them off into cyberspace for comments. It helps to comment on other people's photos to get comments back. You can also post from your cameraphone.
